The interim proposals for the primary curriculum were published on 8 December 2008. They suggest that geography, history and RE are merged into the combined area of "Social, Human and Environmental Understanding". There are opportunities for teachers to comment on the proposal here.

MapPilot is a scheme funded by the DCSF and supported by Becta to provide improved access to Ordnance Survey digital map data. The project runs until July 2008 and already has around 50 schools at all phases enrolled in it. The purpose of the trial is to understand more fully the benefits of teaching with map data, especially using a Geographic Information System (GIS).
